About The Event
Adopt The Block’s mission is to build community by partnering with residents to support residents’ to increase their level of engagement in their own neighborhoods and become active in solving community problems. Towards that goal TPA will organize community clean up days, canvass with community leaders to share information on resources available to families in need & provide opportunities for increased relationship building through community recreational activities. We will work within two neighborhoods throughout the summer: choosing to adopt a few blocks in the Morning Side Community on Detroit’s east side as well as the Cody-Rouge community on Detroit’s west-side. On May 19th, 2019 we launched our 2nd Annual Adopt The Block efforts in the West Chicago/LIvernois Community. TPA aims to increase levels of community pride, deepen resident relationships and provide a sense of cultural competence
Adopt the block will run throughout summer 2019, from May 19th - August 11th, on a bi-weekly basis (1st & 3rd Saturday. Specific Adopt the Block activities will include mowing lawns, boarding up blighted houses, community canvassing with basic needs information and local resources, and a culminating block party.
