About the event

Join us next Sunday  for our last Clean-up of the year.  Our program AdoptTheBlock continues to work deeply in the Cody Rouge community (Detroit). True revolution is embedded in everyday engagement and provisions that enables the community to be self-sustainable, politically competent and united. The Peoples Action strives towards that change.

Adopt The Block’s mission is to raise the community's morale by partnering with residents to support their level of engagement in their own neighborhoods and become active in solving community problems. Towards that goal The Peoples Action sub org Detroit Peoples Community will co-organize community clean up days, canvass with community leaders to share information on resources available to families in need & provide opportunities for increased relationship building through community recreational activities. We will work within two neighborhoods throughout the summer: choosing to adopt a few blocks in the West Chicago/Livernois community on Detroit’s Westside as well as the Cody-Rouge community. On July 5th, 2020 we launched our 3nd Annual Adopt The Block efforts in the Cody Rouge Community. TPA aims to increase levels of community pride, deepen resident relationships and provide a sense of cultural competence Adopt the block will run throughout summer 2020, from July 5th - September 27th, on a bi-weekly basis (1st & 3rd Saturday. Specific Adopt the Block activities will include mowing lawns, financial literacy programs, community canvassing with basic needs information and local resources, and finally in September a block party for residents specifically children organized and by the community.
